The Network for Social Change is a new program of the Forest Foundation designed to provide seed money to young social entrepreneurs between ages 18 to 25 passionately committed to implanting projects of social change. The Network is a devoted community of social change activists armed with a passion for great ideas that benefit local, national, and international communities. Directors within the Network are like-minded leaders seeking to better themselves and the community through mentors, personal growth, and each other.

The Network generally, but not only, seeks projects with focus on:

Environment and sustainability Diversity, gender equality Peace and conflict resolution
    Youth and adolescents,

    teambuilding

    Homeless Gentrification and clean-up
Health, nutrition Religion, Culture and traditions Learning and teaching cooperatives
Parent education / family development Adventure, Outdoors Technology

The Network for Social Change prefers sustainable, endurable projects that produce marked and measured change for specific groups and sectors in society. The Network does not sponsor pending projects, but those that are “ready to go,” and have proven to be prepared for financial assistance. Local, uncomplicated projects are highly encouraged; the Network is not in quest of miracle projects but tangible, socially conscious programs that visibly benefit a specific community.

There are 4 deadlines to apply to the Network: October 15th, January 15th, April 15th, and July 15th. Up to Four Directors may be hired in each “round.” Applicants who are unable to apply or are not accepted are free to apply again.

The Network for Social Change provides each project with maximum of $10,000 in grant money, which is typically awarded in 4 installments paid to organizations over the course of 12 months. Grants are not awarded to individuals. Directors are to form ties and create projects associated with pre-existing organizations. Directors have the option of devoting a portion of the grant as a personal stipend and must indicate specific amounts in proposed budgets.

Directors may seek additional sources of funding for their project. However, Directorship in the Network obligates participation in retreats, communicating with the team, and logo display in all materials associated with their project.

Since the Network operates nationally, all Directors must be ready to submit or participate in:

  • Monthly project reports and budget updates
  • Group conference calls with the Executive Director every 2 weeks, and 1:1 calls throughout their involvement with the Network.
  • 2 Network retreats held in Santa Barbara, CA focusing on teambuilding, project development, and personal growth
  • Periodic readings and discussions
  • Uploading pictures and video to the Network for Social Change website, writing articles for the Forest Foundation newsletter, and publicizing Directors’ projects.
